Family of Four Assisted Following 2-Alarm Fire in Union Center
A family of four is being assisted by the Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross after a two-alarm fire heavily damaged a home on Union Center Maine Highway in Union Center around mid-day February 5.
There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Authorities were alerted to heavy smoke seen coming from the house at 1705 Union Center Maine Highway at around noon and got word there were people inside.
The two adults who were home when the fire started were able to get out.
Firefighters from Union Center, Endicott, Endwell, Newark Valley and Glenn Aubrey worked at the scene.
The Red Cross says the family will be meeting with caseworkers in the coming days to come up with long-term recovery plans. For now, the Red Cross provides funding for temporary housing, food and clothing, as needed, for fire victims.
