Falling Concrete Closes Downtown Binghamton Sidewalk
A chunk of concrete fell to a downtown Binghamton sidewalk near vendors and shoppers at a farmers' market.
The piece plunged from an office building at 99 Collier Street, just south of Court Street. It happened around 1:30 Friday afternoon.
City police and public works employees placed barricades to seal off a section of sidewalk near where the concrete landed.
A woman who saw the piece fall from near the top of the building told WNBF News the chunk appeared to be about the size of a softball. She said no one was near the spot where the concrete struck. A small white mark was visible where the piece hit.
It wasn't known what action would be required to determine whether other sections of the structure may need attention before the sidewalk is reopened.
