The Broome County Council of Churches Faith in Action Volunteers have a big fund-raiser coming up to help finance their numerous programs.

Speaking on the weekly, local public affairs program, The Southern Tier Close Up September 30, FIAV program director, Susan Spencer talks about services to support independence for area seniors through such programs as transportation for medical appointments, assistance with grocery shopping and the oldest of the programs: Senior Living Ministry.

Spencer says Faith in Action only holds a couple major fund-raisers a year to pay for programs and the running of the agency. Dining for Dollars is one of those events coming up October 12.

Local clergy and a few celebrities, including WNBF'S Roger Neel and Tom Picciano serve diners and sing a little jingle looking for tips.

Spencer quips that sometimes diners give their servers generous tips quickly just to get them to STOP singing!

The deadline for reservations is September 29 and can be obtained by calling (607) 724-9130 or online at http://broomecouncil.net.  The cost is $30 and the family-style dinner is being held at the Polish Community Center October 12 with a cocktail hour at 5:30 and the meal served with a song at 6:30.

Information on volunteering or signing up for one of the services provided by Faith in Action Volunteers can also be obtained by calling (607) 724-9130.

Southern Tier Close Up is heard Saturdays at 12:10 p.m. on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
