On March 1, 2023, it was announced that former NFL wide receiver, Antonio Brown, would be joining the ownership group of the National Arena League's Albany Empire. We learned that his father, Capital Region football legend Eddie Brown, would be involved in the day-to-day operations of the team, but Antonio's role was a bit less clear.

While his role is still unclear, his amount of involvement in the Capital Region community is now no longer in question after today's news.

Antonio Brown Set to Move to Capital Region Following Empire Purchase

A story from CBS 6 in Albany shared the news that former NFL wide receiver, Antonio Brown, is set to move to the Capital Region one month after joining the ownership group of the Albany Empire. Brown will reportedly be moving to Saratoga Springs, New York, in the near future, after which he will be involving himself in the community to build support for the team.

It's an exciting next step for Brown and the team, as the Empire look to continue their on-field dominance, while also re-establishing their roots as a Capital Region sports pillar.

The report from CBS also shared an interesting note about Brown's plans with the Empire this season. When asked about any aspirations of suiting up in an Empire game, Brown threw down the gauntlet, so to speak.

He stated that if the MVP Arena was sold-out for a game, then he would have his pads on. It's not a guarantee, but it's a possibility, and now, we wait to see how Capital Region sports fans will respond.

The news of Antonio Brown's move was one of two major headlines to come from the team in recent days, as head coach Tom Menas is reportedly no longer with the team. Offensive coordinator Damon Ware will serve as the team’s interim coach.

“I’m a little heartbroken because I really thought that I could lead this team to a three-peat this year,” Means said to Rodger Wyland in a WNYT piece on the news.

The Empire take the field for the first time in 2023 on April 16th.
