I can't stress enough, the many incredible times you will experience on a camping trip. Whether you camp with a tent or a fully stocked RV, camping is a fun adventure.

My camping experience began with a tent in the backyard of my childhood home. As an adult, my wife and I tent camped many times, especially in the Shenandoah National Parks in Virginia.

And later, we decided to go the route of travel trailers, and have continued to do so for the better of 20 years now. We used to tow our trailer to various sites until we decided to rent a seasonal campground site. And even though it's not anywhere like camping in a tent, it's a camping experience for us just the same.

Speaking of camping, did you know that The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has 52 campgrounds located in the Adirondack and Catskill Parks? It's a lot of great places to get to choose from for a weekend or longer to experience the fun of camping during the warm weather months.

The NYS DEC notes that these campgrounds offer some exciting things like island camping, plus tent and trailer camping. Also available are boat launching facilities, hiking trails, beaches, and areas with picnic tables and grills.

If you like roughing it - heading into the backcountry or prefer primitive camping, most lands managed by NYS DEC including Forest Preserve lands in the Adirondack and Catskill Parks as well as State Forests are permitted. Visit the NYS DEC Contacts page for more information.
