It's Over: Endicott's Felix Roma Bakery Makes Last Loaf of Bread

The Binghamton area has lost another iconic family-owned business with the closure of Felix Roma & Sons Bakery in Endicott.

The ovens were shut down Friday and the final shipments of bread, rolls and other baked goods were delivered on Saturday.

Although production has ended, a few workers are busy this week at the Felix Roma facility on South Page Avenue tending to some remaining chores.

Bakery owner Gene Roma hasn't said much publicly about the decision to close the business after about eight decades of operation. He has said the lingering problems related to the Covid-19 pandemic were a "relatively big factor."

Many of the two dozen or so employees had worked for Felix Roma for decades. They're now in the process of deciding what they'll do next.

Although Felix Roma baked goods were stocked by many stores in the region and the company's items were used by food service operations, some workers surmised that people in the area had started to take things for granted.

The Felix Roma business began with the baking of Italian bread on Endicott's North Side. The company moved from Squires Avenue to a newly-constructed bakery on South Page Avenue in 1969.
