Tale of Two Dunkins: One New Store Opening Soon but Not the Other

An apparent winner has emerged as Dunkin' fans have been monitoring the construction of two new stores in Broome and Tioga counties.

Efforts to establish a Dunkin' shop on Main Street in Westover have been underway for several years, while an old store on Route 434 in Apalachin was torn down last March for a replacement project.

It appears the new Apalachin location will be up and running well before the Westover site.

Santina Christian, who owns the Apalachin shop, told WNBF News she hopes to have the new store in operation around July 1.

Christian was on hand Monday as a tractor-trailer arrived with custom millwork and equipment for the shop. The signage for the new store was installed earlier this month.

Meanwhile, work continued at the future Dunkin' shop at 724 Main Street in Westover near Johnson City.

More concrete was poured at that site on Monday but none of the store's signage had been erected.

BAPA Network of Horseheads will operate the Westover shop. Company representatives have not returned repeated calls for information on when they expect their store to open.

Town of Union officials said they haven't been informed when the Westover shop is expected to become operational.

They said it may take some time because of the required reconfiguration of the intersection at Main Street and Oakdale Road.

The Westover location has been vacant for more than 25 years since a McDonald's restaurant at the site closed.
