Driver Jailed After Teens Struck by Vehicle on Binghamton Street
A man accused of striking two teenagers with his SUV on Binghamton's West Side is being held in Broome County Jail.
33-year-old Kevin Wilcox of Harpursville has been charged with first-degree vehicular assault in connection with Monday afternoon's incident on Beethoven Street. He also was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor.
A 16-year-old girl and a 19-year-old woman were critically injured when a Jeep Wrangler hit them as they were walking home after playing tennis at Recreation Park.
They were struck about a block-and-a-half from the park by the southbound vehicle which crossed over the east side curb line.
Police said the Jeep, driven by Wilcox, continued through the front yards of homes at 44 and 42 Beethoven Street. The out-of-control vehicle finally stopped after hitting two trees at the intersection of Beethoven Street and Lincoln Avenue.
The pedestrians were believed to have sustained life-threatening injuries but investigators have not discussed their condition.
Detectives said Wilcox was not hurt.
