A woman was injured when the vehicle she was driving hit a car and then slammed into a utility pole in a Binghamton neighborhood.

The crash occurred around 1:55 p.m. Monday on Telegraph Street south of Vestal Avenue.

Witnesses said the 2006 Toyota Sienna minivan operated by the woman was southbound on Telegraph Street when it veered across the opposite lane and knocked down a "No Parking" sign.

The minivan struck the passenger side of a Ford Escape sedan and then continued traveling south along an embankment in front of a house at 22 Telegraph Street. It then came to a stop on a sidewalk after smashing into a pole.

A postal service employee pulled the woman out of the wrecked minivan. He said she may have had a medical issue before the crash, although she said she had swerved to avoid an animal.

The woman was taken by Superior ambulance to Lourdes Hospital. Her condition was not known.

A NYSEG crew was called to the scene to inspect the utility pole for damage.
