Workers have finished taking out dozens of stars that made up the "Sidewalk of Stars" near the MetroCenter in downtown Binghamton.

City of Binghamton and Broome County officials last month announced plans to relocate the stars to the Forum Theatre on Washington Street.

Supporters of relocating the stars said it would make them more visible and accessible to area residents.

The 44 stars that made up the exhibit were removed over the past few days. The pavement marker designating the "Sidewalk of Stars" remains in an area blocked off by orange barricades.

When the move was announced, officials said the city of Binghamton will pave the area where the stars had been displayed.

A Broome County spokesman Friday said the public works department is analyzing how to refinish the stars.

Once a decision has been made, the stars will be sent out for refurbishing.

The project is expected to be completed in about a month.
