Abbey Hendrickson was selected for the post by the organization's board of directors.

Hendrickson had been the executive director of the Tioga Arts Council. She is an Owego native. She previously had worked as a public arts program educator at a Massachusetts museum and as a social media coordinator at the Corning Museum of Glass.

According to a news release, Hendrickson "grew up enjoying The Discovery Center" and is looking forward to "building on the achievements of her predecessors."

Discovery Center board president Brian Foy said Hendrickson was chosen after an extensive search. He said her "unique set of skills and experiences" make her well-suited to lead the organization "into its next chapter."

Foy thanked Carol Young who served as interim executive director during the search process.

Margaret "Pokey" Crocker retired last May after working as executive director of the "hands-on children's museum" since 1989. The Discovery Center is located on Morgan Road on Binghamton's South Side.
