With more people using online services, the number of bank branch offices continues to shrink in Broome County.

KeyBank has advised customers it plans to close its downtown Binghamton branch office at 65 Court Street on June 25. The company reportedly plans to shut down several dozen branches this year.

KeyBank regional communications manager Matthew Pitts said accounts at the downtown branch will be transferred to the bank's office at 282 Main Street on the city's West Side.

In a statement emailed to WNBF News, Pitts said KeyBank has "seen a steady increase in client preference for digital banking."

Pitts indicated no KeyBank employees will lose their jobs because of the Binghamton branch closing. Several KeyBank branches in western New York and in Ohio will be shut down in May.

It's not known whether other KeyBank offices in Broome County may be closed as the company continues to assess its operations.

The Court Street office became a KeyBank branch after the company acquired First Niagara Bank.

There once were three bank branches at the intersection of Court and State streets: Bankers Trust, Chase Manhattan and Chemical Bank all had offices there. A Marine Midland branch was located one block east of the intersection.
