Delaware Sheriff/DOT Inspectors Remove Dangerous Vehicles from Road
The safety of vehicles on area roads is heightened in the wake of the deadly limousine crash in Schoharie October 6 involving a vehicle that had reportedly failed inspections.
Delaware County Sheriff’s officials say they recently conducted a commercial vehicle inspection in Colchester and issued 17 summonses for three vehicles for a number of defects and safety violations including inadequate brakes. Two vehicles were taken out of service.
Other issues included misuse of agriculture plates, inadequate lights, improper securement f fuel tank, loose cargo, uncovered load and spreading debris on the highway.
One driver was arrested for displaying a forged inspection certificate.
The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office has been involved in recent inspections with the New York State Department of Transportation Inspectors on several different highways in the county.
