Cuomo Pulling Plug on Johnson City Covid-19 State Vaccination Site
A state-operated Covid-19 mass vaccination facility in Broome County is about to be shut down.
Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced the site at the Binghamton University library annex in Johnson City will close next Monday.
The facility in the former Gannett newspaper printing plant opened in mid-January. According to information provided to WNBF News by the Department of Health, the site administered nearly 141,000 vaccine doses during its first five months of operation.
Cuomo's announcement indicated the state now will "focus on localized vaccination efforts."
1,832 people were vaccinated at the Johnson City facility on March 8, its busiest day.
When it first opened, vaccination appointments were difficult to obtain. But in recent weeks, the site was open to anyone who walked in and appointments were not needed.
