Couple Head to Federal Prison for Photos of Sex Acts With Infant
A Delaware County man and a Schoharie County woman are going to federal prison for decades for sexually exploiting a one-year-old child.
Senior United States District Judge Thomas McAvoy sentenced 38-year-old Joshua Carey of Stamford to 40 years and 28-year-old Ariel Machia of Middleburgh to 30 years after they admitted photographing each other engaged in sexually explicit conduct with the infant in 2016.
The pair pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of a child in February. They had been arrested a year earlier when images they produced were recovered by police in an unrelated investigation. Carey and Machia have been in federal custody since that time.
In addition to the 30 years in federal prison, Machia is to serve 20 years of supervised release.
Carey, who is a registered sex offender with two prior convictions for rape will serve a lifetime of supervised release after his 40 years in federal prison.
Both are required to register with the state as sex offenders.
