Cortland Man Charged in January 6 Capitol Riot
Authorities say a central New York man is being charged for his alleged role in the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol after he was spotted on surveillance video.
Richard Watrous of Cortland is charged with entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly and disruptive conduct and parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building.
His arrest was announced Tuesday, September 28 by Janeen DiGuiseppi, the head of the FBI’s Albany office.

According to charging documents, the 59-year-old Watrous was seen on video wearing a red “Trump” baseball hat as he entered the Capitol on January 6.
An FBI news release had indicated Watrous was from Syracuse but Associated Press identifies him as a resident of Cortland.
