Steve Cornwell announced last week he is dropping his bid for the 22nd U.S. Congressional seat and is running for Family Court Judge in Broome County, instead.

The Republican said in a statement January 31 he’s “never been a politician” and “The politicians in Washington can fight over who will serve in Congress.”

The 22nd district is currently represented by Democrat Anthony Brindisi who defeated incumbent Republican Claudia Tenney in the last election.  Tenney has announced she wants the job back and Broome County educator George Phillips, who has run several times for Congress unsuccessfully in the past, is also seeking the Republican nomination.
