The owner of two of Broome County's fine-dining establishments says they'll be ending operations in a matter of days.

Jim McCoy has informed patrons of the Number 5 and Lampy's restaurants that both will close on May 30.

McCoy was unsuccessful in finding a buyer for the Binghamton and Endicott businesses over the past two years. He ultimately decided to sell the Binghamton property to a developer and open a new restaurant at the Endicott site.

In his message to customers entitled "End of an Era," McCoy noted he'd operated Number 5 for 43 years and Lampy's for 16.

The last dining room meals at the restaurants were served on March 16 before the implementation of the coronavirus pandemic shutdown order. Since then, they've been providing takeout service.

The new restaurant in Endicott's Union District will be called McCoy's Chophouse. It will feature items from both the Number 5 and Lampy's menus, along with "additional Italian fare."

McCoy said he expects when the new place opens, it will have to operate with "half the tables but we'll be ready." He said the restaurant also will have a new "to-go" menu.

It's unclear when Southern Tier residents will be allowed to resume indoor service.
