The lights are on and food is being served again at a downtown Binghamton business that suspended operations late last year.

Chroma Cafe & Bakery at 97 Court Street in recent days has started serving a limited menu of items, including breakfast and lunch sandwiches, along with coffee and other beverages.

The business across from the Security Mutual Building went dark just after Christmas. Social media posts indicated the place would be closed until January 16 and then February 1.

After those dates came and went, a new message was posted at the Chroma Cafe entrance indicating "things don't always go as planned."

A prospective new owner for the business has indicated he is excited about the prospect of operating Chroma Cafe in the future.

An ownership change appears to be nearing completion but no formal announcement has been made.

In the meantime, people are starting to filter back into the spot where Chroma Cafe has been located for the past decade.

Heath and Nancy Hauptfleisch launched the business at a smaller location around the corner at 34 Chenango Street in 2012. They moved it to the larger space on Court Street in the summer of 2014.

The business was acquired by Gerilyn and Kim Cummings in November 2018.
