Construction is officially underway on the Chenango Street Gateway Project in the City of Binghamton.

The first shovelfuls on the $595,000 project uncovered old trolley tracks that had been installed in the 1800s that were buried under the pavement.  The tracks, that had been used up to the early 1930s when buses took over, are being removed.

.6 miles of Chenango Street on the North Side will undergo sewer improvement, new curbs and road surface renovation.

Vacri Construction of Binghamton is doing the work.

The $5 million Front Street Gateway Project is to begin this fall.
