The Chenango Lake Perch Derby will not take place February 4th. The ice is not thick enough at this point and organizers say they are hoping for safer conditions February 18th.

Also scheduled for February 18th is the Almost Annual New York State Crappie Derby at Whitney Point Lake.

Perch Derby officials say they need a foot of solid ice to be able to safely hold the derby.  Moving water under the ice and snow cover on top make it hard for the ice to thicken.

Updates on ice conditions and the status of the Crappie Derby in Broome County can be found at the Crappie Derby website.
