Chenango County Man Accused of Fighting With Arresting Officer

A North Norwich man is charged with resisting arrest after he allegedly fought with a Chenango County Sheriff's Deputy who was attempting to take him into custody for failure to show up in court.

Officials say 73 year old Henry Hemsley was supposed to appear in court to answer to a charge of unlawfully growing cannabis.

Deputies say Hemsley was aware there was a warrant for his arrest and tried to run into his home. That's when he allegedly started fighting with the deputy.

Hemsley was sent to the Chenango County Jail on $5,000 bail.
