Chase Through Johnson City, Binghamton and Fenton Ends in Crash and Fire

Broome County Sheriff’s officials are sorting through the details of a chase that started in Johnson City and ended with a crashed car and fire on Interstate 88 in Chenango Bridge early January 9. 

Authorities say a car carrying three males failed to stop for authorities on Route 17 in Johnson City shortly before 1 a.m. and was chased through the City of Binghamton, onto Interstate 81 to I-88. 

The vehicle crashed between exits one and two and caught fire.  There were no injuries.

Authorities say three men were taken into custody.

It’s not clear what prompted the pursuit to begin with, but the driver may have been operating on a suspended license.
