Canopy Growth Unveils Hemp Industrial Park Plans in Kirkwood
The Southern Tier’s first major Industrial Hemp processing facility is leaping forward with a big event to publicly unveil plans by Canopy Growth Corporation of Ontario, Canada at the new Hemp Industrial Park in Kirkwood.
A parade of politicians including U.S. Senator Charles Schumer, New York Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo, State Senator Fred Akshar, County Executive Jason Garnar and Kirkwood Town Supervisor Gordon Kniffen were scheduled to join Canopy Growth for the launch in Kirkwood July 29.
New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Commissioner Richard Ball and a representative from Congressman Anthony Brindisi’s office were also scheduled to attend.
The Hemp Industrial Park on Camp Drive is taking over the site of the former Shop Vac facility and will process hemp into cannabidiol that is used in CBD ointments, oils and consumables marketed as health supplements.
Production is expected to get underway in the fall following the harvest of recently cultivated hemp plants.
