Binghamton police say a bullet went through the window of a downtown building and wound up inside an apartment closet.

Authorities say two people fired shots at each other on Prospect Avenue between Henry and Lewis streets shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday.

A large crowd was dispersing when police officers responding to a shots fired call arrived at an apartment building at 41 Prospect Avenue.

Investigators determined a bullet from the incident struck a window in an apartment building at 110 Chenango Street and "came to rest in a closet."

The apartment resident was not hurt and police say no injuries were reported as a result of the gun battle.

People with information about the incident may contact the Binghamton police detective bureau at (607) 772-7080.
