The Towns of Binghamton, Maine and Union are looking into a new residential bulk electricity purchasing program.

The Town Boards approved resolutions to explore Community Choice Aggregation that allows municipalities to pool electricity accounts of residents and small businesses to allow for the bulk purchasing of electricity.

Customers who do not want to participate can opt-out and stay with their utility.

No taxpayer or government funds are to be used for the creation or operation of the program that is to be overseen by Municipal Electric and Gas Alliance.

Residents can learn more about the program at www.megacca.org.
