It could have been a big day for the Binghamton Bearcats men's basketball team.  They were hosting the UMass Lowell River Hawks...a first year Division I program.  BU was coming off a dominating stellar performance against New Hampshire.  And, the Bearcats had invited back 30 former players for an alumni game earlier in the afternoon.

Binghamton led 27-26 at the end of the first half and led 39-33 with 13:36 left in the game.  But, then the tables began to turn and the River Hawks caught fire going on a 20-0 run opening up a 16 point lead with 6:50 to play.

That run and that lead were just too much to overcome as UMass Lowell won its second consecutive conference game and toppled the Bearcats 71-59.  The win, coming on the heels of their victory over UMBC earlier in the week, gives the River Hawks their second ever Division I decision.

Akeem Williams fired up 23 points to pace UMass Lowell in scoring.  He hit 5-8 attempts for three point baskets and as a team the River Hawks went 10-22 from beyond the arc.  Meanwhile, the Bearcats struggled offensively hitting just 4 -3's in 22 attempts.

.Binghamton was paced by Yosef Yacob who scored 22 points and Jordan Reed who notched 15 points.  The loss drops Binghamton's overall record to 4-12 and 1-2 in America East.  UMass Lowell moves to 2-1 in the conference and 3-11 overall.  The Bearcats face two tough road foes as they travel to Stony Brook next Wednesday and Albany a week from Monday.  Both games are set for 7 PM starts with airtime at 6:45 on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
