Broome-Tioga BOCES to Use State Funds to Develop Trades Facility
A new training complex will be developed at the Broome-Tioga BOCES main campus in the town of Dickinson.
$1.3 million in state funding has been approved for the trades facility that is planned at the Glenwood Road site.
New York state Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie visited the BOCES campus Monday afternoon to announce the project.
The complex is to provide training for heavy equipment operators, truck drivers, electricians, masons and carpenters.
Heastie and Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo met with the BOCES district superintendent Rebecca Stone and administrators to discuss plans for the project.
According to a news release, Heastie said: “Broome-Tioga BOCES plays an essential role in making sure that New York has a well-trained workforce."
The complex will provide a road for CDL-A truck driver training classes. A truck will be purchased with the state money to assist students in learning needed skills.
The project also calls for building a classroom with a solar installation for electrical students and construction of a pole barn to cover large equipment.
A new pad is to be built to assist BOCES students construct more homes for Broome County Habitat for Humanity.
