A lawsuit filed against Broome County and County Jail officials in connection with the death of an inmate in January is alleging officers beat 35 year old Salladin Barton and allowed him to lie on the floor of his cell for a period of time after suffering a seizure and before summoning medical attention.

Attorneys for the family say they have gotten reports from other inmates of Barton being tormented by racial slurs, beatings, being denied food and being left in his cell with no clothing.

The lawsuit alleges Barton was mentally ill and his treatment during incarceration aggravated his condition and caused seizures.
