Officials with the Broome County Stop DWI program are preparing for the 30th annual Chris Thater Memorial in Binghamton that features world-class bicycling and running races as well as entertainment, displays and demonstrations.

Speaking on the August 3rd edition of the weekly local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up, Stop DWI Coordinator Chris Marion, talks about how the event has grown over the past 30 years while still appealing to amateur and professional athletes as well as non-athletes.

The races, concerts, displays and demonstrations will take place August 34 and 25 at and around Recreation Park in Binghamton.

Marion also talks about current DWI trends in the region.  He notes more arrests are being publicized in the media as law enforcement agencies issue more news releases about cases.  Marion says while the public is hearing more about drunk driving, there has actually been a decline in arrests.

Southern Tier Close Up airs Saturday afternoons at 12:10 on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
