Broome Names Willow Point a COVID Hotspot
Broome County is reporting an increase in the number of coronavirus cases at its nursing home and rehabilitation facility just days after the first cases surfaced.
Broome County Executive Jason Garnar says there have been five cases of the coronavirus in residents at Willow Point Rehabilitation and Nursing Center along with a contract healthcare worker who was the first to report a positive test result.
Garnar says Willow Point is now listed as a hotspot for the virus while a couple privately run nursing home facilities: Vestal Park and United Methodist Homes’ Hilltop campus have been removed from the hotspot list.
Broome County has 410 total positive cases of COVID-19, that’s an increase of four from Saturday and 28 deaths.
Chenango County reported 2 new cases with a total of 115 and four deaths, Cortland County reports 39 cases of the coronavirus. Delaware County had 65 cases, an addition of one from Saturday with four deaths and Tioga County reported no new cases, remaining at 122 with 20 deaths, most of those at the Elderwood nursing home in Waverly.
Pennsylvania reports a total of 62,234 coronavirus cases and 4,418 deaths. Susquehanna County had 83 total cases and 14 deaths, all in nursing homes in the county. Bradford County had 41 cases and 2 deaths while Wayne County had 108 total coronavirus positive test results and 7 deaths since the outbreak began.
