Mary Kaminsky, a Democrat who represents the 13th District, objected to County Executive Debra Preston's plans to implement "major changes" in service without seeking public input.

Kaminsky spoke on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program before a transportation study conducted by a consultant was released.

The lawmaker said she became concerned after she learned from bus drivers that they already were bidding on new routes which had not been publicly announced. She said she had been told the revised route structure was to take effect on February 29.

Kaminsky wondered how changes could be implemented so quickly. While some of the adjustments may be welcomed by bus riders, she said some may not be well-received.

The legislator said she was "just shocked" when drivers told her about how soon the changes would take effect. She said it's not right that the riding public won't be able to express concerns they may have about the new schedules.
