A warning has been issued regarding a fraudulent letter concerning COVID-19 that's being sent to Broome County residents.

The county health department Tuesday afternoon issued an alert to ensure people are aware of the protocols and procedures that are used to provide information about possible exposure to the coronavirus.

According to a news release, those who may have been exposed to COVID-19 would receive a phone call from a health department representative.

Public health notices regarding the coronavirus are posted to the Broome County government website.

Residents who receive something that appears to be suspicious are advised to contact the county health department at (607) 778-2802.

The Broome County security division is assisting the health department in the investigation into the fraudulent letter.
