New York State government agreed to provide up to $2.7 million to Broome County to establish the facility.

The center, which will be operated by Syracuse Behavioral Healthcare, is to be accessible 24 hours a day.

The site will have 50 medically-supervised beds for those undergoing withdrawal.

Syracuse Behavioral Healthcare is to coordinate care for patients as they go through the recovery process.

The state shut down the Broome Developmental Center in a cost-cutting move two years ago despite protests by area residents and elected officials.
