The state comptroller's office has issued a warning about Broome County's financial situation.

Thomas DiNapoli released a report indicating the county is "susceptible" to fiscal stress.

Broome County was one of eight New York counties to receive the designation suggesting serious financial problems are developing.

DiNapoli said the warning should serve as a "wake-up call" to local officials.

The comptroller said the challenges facing local governments have "reached a critical point."

DiNapoli said he hopes the alert will motivate elected officials and residents to work together to deal with fiscal challenges.

Reviews of some local governments - including the city of Binghamton and the town of Union - were not released because they have yet to provide the requested information to the comptroller's office.
