On September 3rd (2025), Visit Binghamton announced that Broome County's tourism industry saw an increase in growth during 2024, reaching record levels for visitor spending and economic impact.

According to a Tourism Economics report, tourism is a major economic driver and is a $3.5B industry in Central New York. In 2024, Broome County's tourism economic impact reached $626 million, encompassing both direct sales and personal income.

Increase In Job Growth

Visit Binghamton noted that the economic impact resulted in 5,854 jobs in the area, highlighting the importance of tourism in supporting Broome County and its surrounding communities.

During 2024, visitor spending topped $484 million in Broome County, which is an increase of 5.2% over 22023 numbers. The highest visitor spending came from the lodging business at $141.6 million, followed by food and beverage at about $167.3 million.

Local Taxes Impact

2024 saw $48.7 million in local taxes from visitors to Broome County, with $26 million in local taxes and $22.7 million in additional NYS taxes. According to Visit Binghamton, this tax revenue helps fund public services and infrastructure in Broome County. The net revenue resulted in an estimated $595 in tax savings per household.
