Port Crane Man Faces Lengthy Prison Time After Conviction
Today, May 7, 2026, Paul Battisti, Broome County's District Attorney, released an announcement of a Port Crane Man who was sentenced to 14 Years for rape and sexual abuse.
33-year-old Stephen Pudiak from Port Crane was sentenced in Broome County Court to 14 years in New York State Prison, followed by 13 years of Post-Release Supervision for his conviction on Rape in the First Degree.
You're showing no remorse or acceptance of responsibility, and I am confident I am not sentencing an innocent person. - The Honorable Judge Carol Cocchiola as she addressed Pudiak directly during sentencing
He was given an additional concurrent sentence of 7 years in New York State Prison and 10 years of Post-Release Supervision, imposed for his conviction on Sexual Abuse in the First Degree. Pudiak will also have to register as a sex offender.
According to the District Attorney's announcement, Pudiak's sentences will run consecutively to a previously imposed sentence of 3 years in New York State Prison, along with 3 years of Post-Release Supervision for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, imposed on April 26, 2024.
As the District Attorney, I am glad we were able to send a dangerous sexual predator to prison. This conviction against a dangerous person stands as a reminder of the pervasive threat of sexual violence in our society. We stand in solidarity with the survivor and remain committed to the pursuit of justice. I applaud the survivor for her bravery in coming forward and holding her offender accountable - Broome County District Attorney Paul Battisti
After a jury trial on February 6, 2026, he was convicted on the Rape in the First Degree and Sexual Abuse in the First Degree charges, stemming from an incident in which Pudiak engaged in non-consensual sexual acts on a physically helpless victim.
He was previously convicted and sentenced on April 26, 2024, on the Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree charge, stemming from a separate incident in which he held a firearm to the victim's head, according to the announcement.
