Have you ever thought about serving as an Election Inspector? The Broome County Board of Elections is looking for local residents to sign up to serve as an Election Inspector in the upcoming November 4th general election, and for early voting.
According to the Broome County Board of Elections, a poll worker prepares the polling places for voting, sets up voting equipment, checks in and processes voters, demonstrates voting procedures, and often assists voters if they are asked to do so.
In addition, when the polls close, poll workers shut down polling places and report election results to the Board of Elections. Broome County poll workers are paid hourly wages for all trainings, county onboarding orientations, and on each day that they work during the election.
For the general election period, there are about 500 poll workers. The Broome County Board of Elections notes that to be eligible to work as a poll worker, residents must be registered to vote in Broome County. Some 17-year-olds are eligible to serve as poll workers if their school district participates in a program under Education Law 3207-a.
