Broome County officials indicate they are not beyond terminating a contract with Aramark Corporation which provides meal services to Willow Point Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Office for Aging and the Broome County Jail in light of complaints about quality and performance.

There have been reports of nursing home residents even skipping meals and losing weight since meals have arrived late or are at temperatures significantly outside of federal standards.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar held a news conference at the nursing home to outline the issues.

Aramark officials say they are committed to working with the County.

The company, which took over food preparation from Broome County’s Central Kitchen after the legislature voted at the end of 2015 to privatize the service, was scheduled to meet with County officials February 13.

In addition to grumblings about the food quality, promptness of service and lack of choices, some officials say Aramark has also double billed and failed to pay invoices for late or missing meals.
