Broome County Drug Trafficker Sentenced to 11 Years in Prison
Broome County District Attorney F. Paul Battisti recently announced a significant legal victory with the sentencing of Kareem R. Young, a 45-year-old resident of Binghamton, to 11 years in New York State Prison.
This ruling was preceded by Young being found guilty as a second felony offender of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, along with two counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the Second Degree by a Broome County Jury in June of 2024.
The case against Young began on January 5, 2024, when the Broome County Special Investigations Unit executed a narcotics search warrant at 25 North Street in the City of Binghamton. During the operation, Young was discovered to be in possession of approximately one ounce of cocaine, along with implements typically used in narcotics trafficking.
District Attorney Battisti emphasized the importance of holding individuals involved in drug trafficking accountable, stating that the 11-year prison sentence imposed on Young by the Honorable Carol A. Cocchiola serves as a clear message of deterrence. Battisti reiterated the commitment of his office to aggressively prosecute those who seek to profit from illegal drug activities and affirmed their dedication to upholding the law and ensuring that offenders face the full consequences of their actions.
The investigation into this case was led by the Broome County Special Investigations Unit, underscoring the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat drug-related crimes in the region. Senior Assistant District Attorney Joseph Nieto played a pivotal role in prosecuting the case on behalf of the District Attorney's Office, aiming to secure justice and uphold public safety in Broome County.
