A tenth person has died as a result of COVID-19 in Broome County.

The Broome County Executive's office announced the latest death related to coronavirus Saturday afternoon. A news release indicated a woman in her 80s had died at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton. No additional information was provided.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the county is approaching 200. According to an online database provided by Broome County, there were 195 cases. 142 active cases were reported and 43 people who had tested positive for coronavirus have recovered.

The city of Binghamton had 60 confirmed cases and the village of Johnson City had 44 cases.

County officials are continuing to urge people to stay home and avoid contact with others. Those who feel sick but don't need immediate help are advised to contact their healthcare provider before going to a hospital emergency room.
