Broome, Cortland and Delaware Counties are reporting additional deaths attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic over the past couple of days.

In its update September 13 Broome officials reported the county’s death toll now stands at 366 with three new deaths since Friday, September 10.  Broome had 64 new cases confirmed for a total of 20,608. 797 of the cases reported by the county are active.

Cortland reports two additional deaths from last week for a total of 71.  It has added 96 new cases for a total of 5,370. 44 of the deaths in Cortland County are reported in nursing homes. Delaware County, which reported 101 new cases since Friday, September 10, had one additional fatality for a total of 53. Delaware County now lists 2,943 cases since the start of the pandemic.

The Delaware County Health Department is going to be updating its COVID-19 information more frequently again as the number of new cases has soared.  Delaware had switched to publicizing cases and deaths only once a week several months ago. The Health Department says it will now report on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays instead of weekly. Officials recommend everyone get the vaccine and those who are unvaccinated to wear a mask indoors in public places.

Broome County is holding a clinic for the J&J vaccine at the Health Department September 14 from 9:10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the first dose of the Moderna vaccine Thursday, September 16 at the Health Department from 1:05 to 2:55 p.m.

New York State has now passed 56,000 deaths due to the pandemic. In the September 13 update, New York reported total deaths at 56,029.  There were 5,447 new cases bringing the state pandemic total to 2,323,065.
