While New York State continues to report the lowest number of COVID-19 hospitalizations since the start of the pandemic, Broome County has reached a milestone in the count of people infected by the coronavirus.

Over the weekend, Broome reported it’s one-thousandth case since mid-March for a total of 1,002 positives with 792 people recovered and 67 deaths.  Broome has tested more than 28,000 people for the coronavirus and last month saw a jump in cases as more people have been turning out to parties and other gatherings where social distancing and the wearing of masks has not been enforced.

Chenango County as of July 31 reported 206 cases and 7 deaths. Delaware County reported one new case August 2 for a total of 96 and 6 deaths while Tioga County added a case a day from the July 31 update to a total of 196 in Sunday’s report and 25 deaths.

New York State reported three deaths from August 1 for a total of 25,170 New Yorkers claimed by the pandemic.  There were 531 new cases state-wide for a total of 416,298.  The state conducted a record number of tests and has found less than one percent,0.9% coming back positive while other parts of the country are seeing cases and deaths soar.
