A public hearing is being held this evening to talk about the proposed Broome County budget, which makes staffing changes and reductions expected to save $2.2 million.

Part of that proposal is eliminating all of the 41 positions in the County Central Foods Department, moving food services for the county nursing home, jail, senior centers and other programs into a partnership with a private company.

On the flip side, nursing staff at Willow Point would be expanded to address what has been cited as a critical staffing shortage.

Additionally, 13 Sheriff’s Deputies are to be hired as the County looks at a close to $6 million jail expansion.

The hearing is at 5 p.m. in the Legislative Chambers of the Broome County Office Building.

A final budget is due November 27.
