Representative Anthony Brindisi has called on federal regulators to put an end to internet service price increases during the coronavirus pandemic.

Brindisi, an Oneida County Democrat who represents New York's 22nd Congressional District, said it's "simply outrageous" that companies like Spectrum are raising fees during the pandemic.

The congressman said he's written to the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission urging the agency to prevent internet service providers from raising prices while workers and students are stuck at home.

Brindisi said he had called on Spectrum owner Charter Communications last month to suspend planned rate hikes for 90 days. He said despite the request, many Spectrum customers have been hit with increases during the pandemic.

The congressman said he's heard from "countless constituents" who have had cable and internet bills rise "despite rising unemployment and the necessity of at-home internet access."
