Boys and Girls Clubs Get Big Financial Boosts
Local Boys and Girls Clubs are having a very good week.
Carol Schneider, who entered a sweepstakes at the Boys and Girls Club of Western Broome and won $10,000, has decided to give the windfall back to the children.
Meanwhile, Binghamton’s Boys and Girls Club will be open until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and give rides home to the children participating in the after hours program while a job-training program for teens will be expanded thanks to Community Development Block Grant funding.
The City of Binghamton is providing $50,000 for the late-night programs that keep the club open and programs available for children after the normal 7 p.m. closing time year-round. Another $20,000 is funding tutoring programs and a paid work opportunity for teens manning the snack bar at the Teen Center.
