BJ’s Wholesale Club Confirms Johnson City Store’s Opening Date
A new membership warehouse club store will be launching operations in the Oakdale Commons in Johnson City in a few days.
BJ's Wholesale Club, which is based in Massachusetts, on Thursday confirmed it intends to open the Broome County unit next week.
The company said the Johnson City store will open on January 26. It will be the 48th BJ's Wholesale Club location in New York state.
Plans for the 99,000-square-foot Oakdale Commons store were announced last March, a few weeks after workers began demolishing the former Bon-Ton store at the mall.
The Bon-Ton operated at the Johnson City retail complex until it closed in 2018. The department store was known as Fowler's when it opened in October 1975.
The BJ's Wholesale Club store will be about 19,000-square-feet bigger than the old Bon-Ton building.
A gas station will be located along Reynolds Road, just east of the new store. Club members will be offered a discount on their gasoline purchases.
