Binghamton’s Zoo Hunts For a New Executive Director
Binghamton’s Zoo needs a new director again.
A news release issued January 17 announces Jacqueline Peeler, who has been the Executive Director of Ross Park Zoo since January 2016 has taken the Curator position at the Boston Museum of Science.
The Southern Tier Zoological Society says a search has begun for the next executive director.
Qualified applicants can find more information at www.rossparkzoo.com/employment.
Ross Park, the 5th oldest zoo in the country, has gone through several directors over the past decade or so with one of the longest-serving directors, Steven Contento, returning to the job following a brief retirement.
The zoo has also been working to regain Association of Zoos and Aquariums accreditation it had lost in 2014 after failing to meet the AZA standards. The zoo on Binghamton’s Southside had regained accreditation in 2009 after losing the designation in 2005 due to problems with leadership and finances. Other issues with accreditation have surrounded the local zoo’s ability to upgrade some facilities to new and changing standards maintained by the AZA.
