Binghamton’s Tennis Tournament Cancelled Again by COVID
The Levine Gouldin & Thompson Binghamton Tennis Challenger is cancelled again this year due to the pandemic.
The May 7 announcement said the required COVID-19 protocols for players, umpires, staff and volunteers are just too great to be able to hold the tournament in Binghamton this summer.
Tournament Director Laurie Bowen and LG&T representative Howard Rittberg say an agreement has been made with the U.S. Tennis Association to host the tournament in Binghamton in 2022.
Organizers say with the current restrictions on attendance, ticket sales and sponsorships would not be able to support the tournament.
The courts at Recreation Park in Binghamton where the LG&T Binghamton Challenger normally take place are currently undergoing major renovations, which tournament organizers note, also benefit “thousands of community and youth players who play there every year.”
