Binghamton Zoo Ready For Grand Opening Day
The Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park's grand opening for its 139th season will be on Saturday.
The zoo, on Morgan Road on the city's South Side, already has been open weekends this month. But it's now ready to begin operating on a seven-day-a-week schedule.
The facility will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Zoo executive director Steven Contento says efforts will continue to increase the number of visitors. He says zoo officials hope to build on the growth that's occurred over the last few years.
Contento says the harsh winter was challenging for the zoo's staff and for its animals. He notes the facility's electric bills soared because of the unusually cold temperatures.
The zoo has planned a series of special activities and promotions for the next several months.
During its "Eggstravaganza" celebration this Sunday, visitors will have an opportunity to pose for pictures with the Easter Bunny.
